North Node House Calculator
Find your North Node sign and house placement free.
This North Node house calculator does two things. First it works out your North Node sign from your birth date using standard astronomical formulae. Then, if you know your Rising sign, it places that node in one of the twelve houses so you can see where your growth themes actually show up in daily life.
North Node Sign vs North Node House
These answer two different questions and are often confused. The sign tells you the quality of the growth. The house tells you the department of life it belongs to.
| Placement | What it describes |
|---|---|
| North Node sign | The style and qualities associated with your development |
| North Node house | The area of life where those themes are expressed |
| North Node degree | The precise zodiac position within the sign |
| North Node aspects | How the node relates to other chart placements |
A North Node in Leo in the 6th house, for example, reads differently from a North Node in Leo in the 10th. Same growth quality, very different arena. If you only want the sign, use the main North Node Calculator.

Why the Rising Sign Is Required
Houses are measured from the Ascendant, the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. The Ascendant depends on your exact birth time and birthplace, because the horizon shifts roughly one degree every four minutes.
This is why a North Node house cannot be worked out from your birth date alone. Two people born on the same day, with the same North Node sign, can have that node in completely different houses if they were born hours apart.
Which House System Does This Use?
This calculator uses whole sign houses, where each house covers one full zodiac sign starting from your Rising sign. It is the oldest house system in use and has one practical advantage: there are no cusps to fall across, so a placement never sits ambiguously between two houses.
Other systems, including Placidus, Koch and Equal, divide the chart by different mathematical methods. A node close to a house cusp can shift by one house between systems, so if you compare against another chart calculator and get a different number, this is usually the reason.
Your South Node House
Because the nodes sit exactly opposite, your South Node house is always the one six positions away. The pairings are fixed: 1st and 7th, 2nd and 8th, 3rd and 9th, 4th and 10th, 5th and 11th, 6th and 12th. The calculator reports this automatically. For the sign side of that axis, use the South Node Calculator.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a North Node House Calculator?
It is a free tool that finds your North Node sign from your birth date and then places it in a house using your Rising sign. The house shows which area of life your North Node growth themes actually play out in.
Why do I need my Rising sign for the house?
Houses are measured from the Ascendant, so the same North Node sign lands in a different house depending on what was rising at your birth. Without the Ascendant there is no way to work out the house.
What house system does this calculator use?
Whole sign houses, where each house covers one complete zodiac sign starting from your Rising sign. It is the oldest system and the most reliable one to calculate without a full chart engine.
Can my North Node house be different in other systems?
Yes. Placidus, Koch and Equal house systems divide the chart differently, so a placement near a house cusp can shift by one house. Whole sign avoids cusp ambiguity entirely.
What if I do not know my birth time?
You can still get your North Node sign, which the calculator gives you straight away. For the house you need your Ascendant, and that requires an accurate birth time and birthplace.
Is my South Node house the opposite one?
Yes. The nodes are 180 degrees apart, so the houses always pair: 1st with 7th, 2nd with 8th, 3rd with 9th, 4th with 10th, 5th with 11th and 6th with 12th.
Which matters more, the sign or the house?
They answer different questions. The sign describes the quality of growth, and the house describes the area of life where it happens. Most astrologers read them together.
Does my North Node house change over time?
No. Your natal house placement is fixed at birth. The transiting nodes move through the houses, but that is a separate cycle from your birth chart.
Complete Your Nodal Axis
You now have your North Node sign and house. Add the opposite end with the South Node Calculator, or read the True Node vs Mean Node guide if your result sat near a sign boundary.
